She has been an active change maker and advocate for sustainability, environmental justice, and activism through art for 12 years. At age 16 Maya received a commendation from President Barack Obama for outstanding achievement in environmental stewardship. She has been featured in Forbes, TIME, The View, CNN, Grist, NPR, Vice, Marie Claire, Teen Vogue, Nylon, Essence, and more. Maya founded nonprofit organization Maya's Ideas 4 The Planet in 2011, and started an ongoing project where she has designed, created and shipped eco-friendly sanitary pads to women and girls in healthcare facilities in Haiti, Senegal, Somalia, and Cameroon. Maya’s book “You Got This!” (Published by Simon &amp; Schuster) is being used in schools around the world as curriculum to teach youth social entrepreneurship, activism and giving back, and more.
